A Tasty Tuesday!

On Tuesday of this week, it was around dinnertime that four Mawrtyrs embarked on (two) journeys to Ardmore and back again, enjoying some pancakes along the way. How is this possible, you ask? pancakes... from little children selling pancakes on the side of the road? ..Girl Scout Pancakes?...the pancake fairy? NO silly! from IHOP of course :) on National Pancake Day!

Sarah A, Sarah K, Mishi and I left campus on Tuesday (at the new grp run time of 5pm!), running to Ardmore using Lancaster as our route of choice (which can allow for an enjoyable town experience if you aren't able to walk in as often as you may like).

Since Tuesday was the day preceding the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday (the period of fasting, penitence and prayer observed by some Christian sects leading up to the celebration on Easter of the Resurrection of Jesus), we found ourselves discussing the significance of the "40 days" of Lent as well as the reasons that people traditionally choose to "give up" something which they enjoy partaking in (such as watching television, eating chocolate, etc).

Meanwhile we reached the IHOP in Ardmore only to find that their offer of three free pancakes per customer had spread far and wide, leaving us a 50-minute wait.... or an opportunity to make a trip back to Bryn Mawr, making that time a productive part of our grp run and aiding in the 8mile total for the day! We returned to IHOP with time to spare, stretching before we consumed our (pre)dinner feast, with honey provided by Sarah K to supplement the meal in a truly tasty way :)

It was definitely a run for the books! Hope to see you all at 5PM this Tuesday for our next group run!!! :D

"Known also as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products…hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday."
